Green is for Giving, Growing, and Balance

December 23, 20243 min read

As the lush green grass of summer fades beneath winter’s blanket of snow, it’s time to embrace the green of pine and evergreen trees.

Take a moment to sit quietly and transport yourself to a peaceful forest of evergreens. Breathe in the fresh, invigorating scent. Notice the tall trees, their branches adorned with snow, standing strong and protective against the wind. Inhale deeply, visualizing the vibrant green energy flowing into your heart center. As you exhale, imagine sending out love and balance to the world. Just one or two minutes of this simple practice can restore calm and inner peace.

Welcome to December: The Season of Green

Green is a powerful color. It represents the Heart Chakra, symbolizing love, balance, and connection. During the holiday season, it’s easy to get swept up in shopping and the search for the “perfect” gifts. But what if we slowed down and gave gifts that matter—handmade treasures, shared traditions, and time spent together? These are the moments that become cherished memories.

I still have the wooden cradle and rocking chair my grandfather lovingly made for me as a child. They bring back such warm memories, not just of the gifts themselves but of the time he spent with me. My favorite tradition was waiting for him to arrive on Christmas morning. I remember calling him at 4:00 a.m. some years—yes, that early!—and he and my grandmother would be at our house within minutes, car packed and ready to go. The joy and love from those moments are priceless.

Time is the most precious gift of all. It costs nothing, yet its value is immeasurable.

Balance in a Busy Season

Green is also the color of balance, something we all need as December fills our schedules with endless tasks and events. If you find yourself overwhelmed, return to the simple breathing exercise. It can calm stressed parents and even help over-stimulated children who just need a moment to “be.”

Children connect naturally with colors. Encourage them to breathe in green for calmness or explore other cool tones like blue or purple for added peace. These small moments can make a big difference in creating calm amidst the chaos.

Growth and Reflection

Green is also tied to growth—a perfect theme as we look ahead to the coming year. Many of us, myself included, begin setting intentions and goals for January. Before you move forward, take time to reflect. Close the chapter of this year with gratitude.

Grab a journal and jot down all the milestones you’ve reached, the people you’ve met, and the beautiful moments you’ve experienced. I recently did this myself and was amazed by everything I had accomplished. Writing it down not only highlights your successes but shows you how much you’ve grown, giving you valuable feedback as you shape your future goals.

The Little Things That Matter Most

As the year comes to a close, remember that it’s the little things—love, connection, and presence—that mean the most. Take time for yourself and encourage your family to join you in quiet moments of reflection, breathing, and simply “being.” These moments are as valuable to you as they are to those you love.

Celebrate how far you’ve come this year, and don’t forget to give yourself a well-deserved pat on the back. You’ve accomplished more than you realize!

This blog is dedicated to our loved ones who are no longer with us physically but whose memories live on in our hearts every day.

Wishing you a season filled with balance, growth, and love. Have a beautiful and peaceful holiday season.
